Nominate Your Burnley Champion for the Best of Burnley Awards 2009
Do you know someone who works tirelessly to make a difference in Burnley? Or someone whose pride in Burnley helps put our town on the map?
If so, its time to give them the recognition they deserve. Burnley Action Partnership is inviting you to nominate a local individual or group who go that extra mile to make a positive difference in Burnley.
We know there are many individuals and groups working hard in Burnley and Padiham, helping to improve the lives of residents, of all ages, through work in areas such as health, environment, sports, hospitality, activities for children and teenagers, and interfaith activities.
All too often their work goes unrecognised and they don't seek praise. We want to change that and reward them for their selfless work and achievements, by inviting them to a glittering awards ceremony, which will take place on Tuesday 17th March 2009, at the Mechanics Theatre.
Note : Council employees cannot be nominated. We are calling for nominations for residents and voluntary groups working out in their communities.
Betterburnley – what’s it all about?
Burnley often gets a bad press – too many bad news stories, pictures of empty houses, images of grimy mills and rubbish in the streets, a town associated with doom and gloom but for people living in Burnley we know that is not the true picture.
The Burnley we know has lots going for it – friendly people, accessible countryside, Burnley Football Club, a vibrant night life, fantastic community spirit, award winning parks, a successful college to name but a few.
(Don’t take our word for it, take a look around the website and read about what Burnley people’s favourite things about Burnley and take a look at our new view picture gallery.
So what is betterburnley – a new view about?
The campaign is about encouraging people to take pride in their town. It is a pride campaign designed to show that it’s not all bad in Burnley. The campaign aims to challenge the negative perceptions often held about the town by focusing on the positives and showing through actions, words and pictures that Burnley is a better place to be.
The original idea for the campaign was derived from Burnley’s Sustainable Community Strategy which is written and developed by the local strategic partnership, Burnley Action Partnership and whose long-term vision is to achieve a Burnley that we can all be proud of.
