20/20 vision
a creative arts project
In Spring 2006 the 2020 Vision Time Machine landed in Burnley enabling Burnley school children to take a school trip into the future to see what could happen to their Burnley in 2020. On their return they created lots of different artwork bringing to life all the exciting things they had seen.
Take a minute or two to look at the 2020 Vision mini exhibition at the Contact Centre and see a new view of Burnley through the eyes of Burnley’s future.
the 2020 vision project
2020 Vision is a project designed to express the thoughts and ideas of some of Burnley’s younger residents. The project uses art as a vehicle for the young people to express their thoughts on some of the initiatives that are taking place in Burnley including:

housing – elevate east lancashire
Some amazing houses were designed and produced. These budding architects and interior designers incorporated ideas such as eco housing, turf roofs and communal garden spaces.
schools – building schools for the future
Thought vision boxes and collages were produced for the Building Schools for the Future.
leisure – the new st peter’s centre
Lots of colourful boards with collage were produced to express their ideas on health and leisure. The young people expressed a wish for more green spaces nd another St Peter’s Centre and a big, big skate park
shopping – the town centre masterplan and oval development
Maps with 3D plasticine models evolved from discussions about Burnley’s town centre. The young people loved redesigning a Burnley town centre for the future and wanted to change all the town centre roads to canals so Burnley could become the Venice of the north! They introduced a monorail, opened a zoo, swapped Tesco’s for Legoland and gave Burnley even more beautiful green spaces.
heritage – weaver’s triangle masterplan
The concept of using and celebrating buildings from the past and how they could link to the future proved a popular and fascinating idea. They envisioned the old mills along the canal being used as cafes, apartments, shops and museums. As a result of these ideas the most amazing banner has been produced with the aim of celebrating everything that is great about Burnley both past and present.

delivering the project
