writing home
Take a look at the Writing Home project and read the poems, stories and pictures on why Burnley is special to people from across the borough.
The Writing Home project is an Arts Council collaboration with Burnley Borough Council and Burnley Action Action Partnership. The project’s aims was to interact with local people to create positive images of Burnley, celebrating achievements, promoting pride amongst Burnley communities and contradicting negative perceptions often held about the town.
Participants came from a wide range of ages and backgrounds – students, mothers of young children, bus drivers, park wardens, and shoppers. A series of creative writing workshops were run by ALKIMU to produce a thought provoking booklet of reflective thoughts and genuine pride in the town.
Jillian Martins whose poem about Burnley through the seasons is one of the featured works said “It is really exciting to see your work in print especially as I have not written in this way since I was at school.”
The poems and short stories have been showcased on Burnley & Pendle Travel buses and Russell Revill, Operations Director for Burnley & Pendle Travel was delighted to be able to support the Writing Home project saying, ‘It is nice to be able to provide an opportunity for our travellers to share the pride residents have in their town.”
